Your kidding on this one right? Still a bargain? What the train will cost us more then it will ever make. We will have to keep it a live by substidicing it all the time. Much like many other worthless project we have.
Just wait until the price of gas goes up again...and with this escalating war, just wait. We need to put some effort into keeping our rail infrastructure healthy, and it's not. I don't know if this commuter train is the best solution, but it will be our future. Get that line done now. We need to start thinking about moving freight by rail again.
John, I was only slightly kidding. I still believe this project should move forward. We need to think in the very long term -- oil, most likely, will be very expensive in twenty years. Can you even imagine how expensive it will be in a hundred years? We are so far behind the rest of the world on mass transit that it is actually kind of embarrassing.
I don't think this project has to make money or even break even. It is an investment in our future. A hundred years from now people won't understand the kind of mentality that opposed projects like this.
The train does have to make money or very least make money. It can not be a project that we pay for years to come.
I like mass transit however I am not a fan of this project. As far as being behind the world on this type of travel that is fine by me.
When the train cost as much or more then driving what is the gain, nothing. If I can get to the cities with my own car just as fast that is what I will do.
There are so many stops along the way it is insane if you are the going to the twin cities.
